Etsuko Nakayama - Oriental Butterfly Pendant

Etsuko Nakayama Oriental Butterfly Penda

We're delighted to introduce award-winning artist Etsuko Nakayama all the way from Japan for her first class ever in the UK! Etsuko is one of the top instructors of Art Clay Club in Japan and probably one of the top Art Clay artists in the world. Etsuko develops many of the courses run by Art Clay.

In this class you'll learn how to make an elegant lightweight openwork design, combining Art Clay Silver clay and traditional filigree technique, where you work with twisted and assembled fine silver threads of wire.

Filigree is a technique which originated in Mesopotamia and Egypt, thousands of years ago. It is a delicate kind of jewellery metalwork, usually of twisted threads of gold and silver, or both in combination, interwoven to make a lace-like decoration. The wires are often soldered together or to the surface of an object of the same metal and arranged in artistic motifs.

Etsuko will show you how to create the twisted wire and how to process the twisted wire so it is suitable for filigree work. You'll learn how to design and create a piece with a delicate look, but the strength to cope with wearing. Being a master with the syringe, Etsuko will show you have to create a 3D effect design with Art Clay Syringe type. You'll also learn about silver solder powder and how to use it in your work.
